Travel • Iceland

To Everywhere, Iceland.

We began by hitting the road and making the short drive to Montreal, Quebec to catch our flight to Keflavík, Iceland. Flying with Wow Air wasn’t horrible, the flight had us arriving at 5 am. After watching the Northern Lights from my plane window, making our way through passport checks, and grabbing a big cup of sad airport coffee- we were ready.

Max and I decided to brave the day until our AirBnB checks in at 2 pm, we hopped in our rented car and made our way North to Eyja- og Miklaholtshreppur where we checked out the sites. Coming back down to the quaint town Borgarnes, we found a rest stop by some foggy mountains that for a quick nap.

After we woke, we grabbed more coffee and made our way to our little cabin AirBnB in Reykholt. In the middle of a valley, hot springs fogged our drive as we made it to our sweet, sweet bed. This little gem had a private hot tub too.

Many things were found by accident, like on the second day while we made our way to a different Reykholt but the roads we traveled shared bright fall colors among cascading rapids, carved mountains and of course, tons of sheep! We stumbled into Öxarárfoss by chance and fell in love. The trail leading to the waterfall was lined with cliffs, with a darker history. That night feasted on hot dogs and then soaked in our hotpot.

The clouds parted, and a light struck through like a wave. Soon, more lights followed, as waves almost would. The Aurora Borealis took the entire sky, and even the campers downhill shouted there amusement.

Iceland really is full of awe and wonder. Day Three involved a quick drive to the popular Geysirs‘ and then a quick turn into a backroad to Hella. We took a walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, soaked in adventure, we continued to wander into Eyjafjallajökull. Vik was a dream town on a rugged coast, we spent a stormy night on the shores watching waves.

Day Four brought on a fresh take on Iceland. After some coffee, we took off to the beach and found a cave along the way. The Black Sand beaches were a sight I always wanted to see, and they did not disappoint. We took a quick pit stop at the Sólheimajökull Glacier and felt as though we were on the moon.

The sun lit our path back to Reykjavik. We finished our trip by indulging in a penthouse loft in the city’s core, with a rooftop hot tub. We didn’t go far for dinner but still think about the pot of mussels that we had at Meze

Our trip was abruptly coming to an end, Day Five was here so we decided to spend the morning walking the streets of Reykjavik with a coffee and pastry in hand. We said farewell to Iceland by visiting their artisanal shops, looking over street art and of course, returning to the airport.
